Priorities
- The Need for an Evidence-Based Culture: Lessons Learned from Evidence-Based Practice Implementation This report focuses on lessons learned for implementation efforts in the mental health field; from experience, and with the perspective of adult and children's services. These lessons learned have been culled from workshops, conferences, site visits, and technical assistance initiatives sponsored by the Center for Mental Health Quality and Accountability (CMHQA) at the NASMHPD Research Institute, Inc.
- The Role of Leadership in Mental Health System Transformation This report discusses the functions and qualities of effective leadership, and provides ideas on how to motivate change within an organization to ecnourage agencies to adopt the use of evidence-based practices as outlined in the President's New Freedom Commission Report on Mental Health.
- Summary of States' Research/Evaluation Priorities based on interviews with State Mental Health Agencies in May 2006
. Throughout May 2006, NRI staff conducted phone interviews with state research directors to solicit their ideas and input for research/evaluation priorities. In addition, E-mails were sent to all members of NASMHPD’s Divisions including: Adult; Children, Youth & Families; Forensic; Older Persons; Legal; Medical Directors; and the National Association of Consumer/Survivor Mental Health Administrators (NAC/SMHA). Responses were received from 34 States, a total of 47 responses.

- Transformation of the Louisiana Mental Health System: Next Steps This is the final of a serie of three reports. This report reviews priorities identified during the last site visit (from August 25-26, 2005), and presents recommendations for next steps to implementing mental health system transformation in Louisiana.

- Results of a Survey of State Directors of Adult and Child Mental Health Services on Implementation of Evidence-Based Practices This report presents results of a 50-state survey conducted by the NRI Center for Mental Health Quality and Accountability to: 1) obtain detailed descriptive information on state mental health agencies' policies, strategies, and mechanisms for implementing evidence-based practices in mental health service systems for adults and children; 2)identify models of successful EBP implementation; 3) identify challenges, barriers, and facilitators that influence statewide implementation; and 4) identify needs related to current and future implementation.
- Quality and Accountability: An Agenda for Public Mental Health Systems A paper developed for the Institute of Medicine's Meeting on "Crossing the Quality Chasm: An Adaptation to Mental Health and Addictive Disorders," held September 13-14, 2004 in Washington, D.C.
- Planning and Budgeting Evidence-Based Practices for Mental Health and Substance Abuse Disorders This document is intended to provide technical assistance to members of the National Association of Mental Health Program Directors (NASMHPD) on planning for and budgeting evidence-based programs (EBPs) for mental health and substance abuse treatment.
- Implementation of Evidence-Based Practices in State Mental Health Systems: Implications for Research and Effectiveness Studies Provides an overview of the status of implementation of EBPs in state mental health agency systems, the concerns and challenges arising with such implementation, priorities identified by commissioners to move the quality agenda forward, and the implications for research and effectiveness studies to help them in this effort.

This literature review is not intended to be a comprehensive review of adult learning or marketing, but rather to cull together the existing reviews to ensure that IRK developmentis consistent with theory and empirical findings. The result is the identification of common priciples and tested components in these fields that can guide the frame, focus, and content of future toolkits for adults.
